Resounding wins by second and third placed Nimble Nook A and Royton Cricket A closed the gap on the leaders
Hollinwood Cricket A. Nook had 9 winners at home to Crompton with Brian Yates saving the Glebe Street side from total
humiliation and Ken Bowles winning 21-5 for the home side. Royton Cricket made light work of the tricky 'Joywheel'
at Brookdale Park running in 7 winners and taking the aggregate by 13 chalks. Meanwhile over at Dunwood Park leaders
Hollinwood Cricket A could only return 4 winners but pinched the extra 3 points by one chalk, despite Eric Cottam losing his
100% record to Keith Booth. Stanley Road A seem to be having a bit of a run and although they only had 4 winners at Springbank
it was enough to lift them of the bottom of the division. Kitty winners were Alan Bidwell, 21-4, for Bank whilst Bob Price
demolished Alan Jackson 21-6 for Road. In the mid table clash at North Chadderton visitors Friezland only had 2 winners
and went down 11-3 and swapped places with their hosts. Springhead Libs A's crown looks to be finally slipping as
they won 8-7½ at home to Delph A. John O'Neill's 21-1 card was best win for Libs, who are now 17½ points
from top spot. It isn't impossible but at this point is probably improbable. (If that makes sense it's a first for
me!)
Second played third at Tonge where the Middleton side had all ten winners against Moorside, Denis Hoyle leading
the rout with a 21-8 score. Tonge's win only moved them a point closer to Stalybridge Rec who took 12 points at Uppermill
with T Woods winning 21-1 for Rec. With Moorside's demise at Tonge, Nimble Nook B and Chadderton Hall A were
able to push them into fifth spot as they had wins away at Royton Park A and home to Dog & Partridge respectively. Nook
had 6 winners, Geoff Howard 21-3, for a 12-3 win and Chaddy Hall had the same number of winners for a 9-6 victory. After two consecutive losses Jack Stirrup got back to winning ways with a 21-4 card as Royton Cricket B defeated St Georges
Square A 10-4½. Harry Hollas, 21-3, was the kitty winner for Stanley Road B as they narrowly beat Higher Failsworth
Park A 8-7½.
It was home wins all the way this week with all home sides running in 7 or more winners. Best wins were
at Friezland B and Norden who both had 8 winners. The former hosted Werneth Cricket, B Radcliffe took the honours 21-6 whilst
Norden's best winner was Geoff Mallinson, 21-6 as they entertained Dunwood Park B Alexandra Park won 10-4½
at home to Dobcross, A Herd winning 21-6 for the park side. Delph B had the same scoreline at home to Werneth Park, Ted
Weigh, 21-6, best for Delph. Leaders Lees & Hey also had 7 winners at home to Brookdale Park B with Mel Bagley maintaining
his unbeaten record with a 21-3 win.
The top three sides all won to put a little daylight between third and fourth. Falconers Arms remain
in fourth spot despite going down 11-3 at leaders Church Inn whose best winner was T Kerr 21-6. The result puts Falconers
7½ points adrift of Hollinwood Cricket B who had a 9-6 win at home to Fitton Park, Eddie Hardaker's 21-2 win getting
him the kitty (how many is that this season - he must now be a wealthy man!). One point ahead of the Lime Lane side, and in
second spot, are Royton Park B who only had 4 winners at Coalshaw Green Park but took the aggregate, thanks to 21-6 wins from
Charlie Hewitt and Terry Meadowcroft, for a 9-6 scoreline. Basement team St Georges Square A shared the winners with
visitors Westwood Park but lost by 5 chalks on the aggregate for a 5-10½ result. Another close call on the aggregate
was at Higher Failsworth Park B where the home side won by 2 chalks to add to their 5 winners against North Chadderton B,
A Batham winning 21-3 for Failsworth. Copster Park beat visitors Chadderton Hall Park B 8-7½- nothing particularly
remarkable about the scoreline except that Chaddy Hall only had 8 players so it was a creditable result for the visitors for
whom Ray Norris turned in a 21-3 card and P Williams 21-4 against Dougie Watts. That's 3 defeats in a row at home for
Dougie- he's either lost the power of speech or his opponenets have been a little hard of hearing!

Clayton Cup Quarter Finals
It's going to be a repeat of last year's final as holders Norden
meet runners up Springhead Libs in one of the semi finals. Norden disposed of Hollinwood Cricket B with 8 winners, turning
over a handicap of 44 to win by 18 chalks. Springhead Libs A had to concede 107 chalks but put their experience and home
advantage to good use registering all ten winners and running out with 23 chalks to spare- a great achievement. They
will need to be on top form in their semi final as they will have to give Norden 60 start! North Chadderton B had a 37
chalk start over Tonge and it proved too much for the B Division side. Despite 7 winners they went down by 7 chalks thanks
to Frank Backhouse's 21-8 win.
Dobcross completed the line up in the semi
finals when they beat Stalybridge Rec 232-213 at the Rec. The 49 start that Dobcross had didn't, on the face of it, appear a
task too far for the home side with their big green, but as the visitors returned three winners it was too much. Dobcross
now meet North Chadderton B.
